An FCC petition calling for charges to be dropped against photojournalist Anthony Kwan who was prosecuted by the Thai authorities for carrying protective body armour and helmet while on assignment in Thailand was delivered to the Thai consulate on November 20.
The FCC petition was signed by 2,900 members and their guests.
Hong Kong-based Kwan was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport when boarding a flight to Hong Kong on August 24.
Thai law prohibits possession of military equipment without a licence. He may face a charge of carrying an illegal weapon, and could be jailed for up to five years if found guilty.
Journalists regularly use body armour and helmets when reporting from dangerous locations including the many journalists covering street protests in the past few years.
