The Edge banned in Malaysia

EDGEcoverThe FCC and the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan have jointly expressed grave concern about the Malaysian Home Ministry’s suspension of the publishing permits of The Edge Weekly and The Edge Financial Daily, and see it as an assault on press freedom.

The suspension is linked to the publications’ coverage of the scandal surrounding the country’s sovereign wealth fund, 1Malaysia Development Berhad, which missed a debt repayment deadline.

EdgeFDcover“We call on the authorities to immediately reverse the decision and allow the journalists to continue their work without censorship, intimidation or interruption,” the statement said.

The following organisations also support the statement: Asia Pacific Association of Press Clubs, Melbourne Press Club, National Press Club of Momgolia, National Press Club of Australia, and the FCCs in Malaysia, Taiwan and China.
