Journey to North Korea –
Reuters Photojournalist Bobby Yip
Reuters photographer Bobby Yip visited North Korea in spring for the first time. During his 10-day trip he captured images of the secretive nation as it celebrated the 100th birthday of the nation’s founding leader Kim Il-Sung.
Yip was among a select group of journalists allowed to visit the North Korean rocket launch site. A subsequent attempt by the reclusive regime to test a long-range rocket in April ended in failure. The country said the Unha-3 rocket was designed to establish an orbiting weather satellite, although critics said it was intended to advance North Korea’s ambitions to develop a ballistic missile capable of delivering a nuclear warhead aimed at the continental United States.
Yip has been a Reuters photographer in Asia for 22 years. This exhibition features photos from his Pyongyang trip.
