In this workshop, Hong Kong University legal expert Sharron Fast and Wall Street Journal news risk senior manager Stevo Stephen will discuss how the risks for journalists have increased over the four months of the protests and explain the best ways of dealing with the new challenges.
Increasing violence on the ground has resulted in injuries to journalists, who are often caught up in clashes between police and protesters. The escalating violence has seen the police resort to using live ammunition and water cannons in addition to pepper spray, rubber bullets, tear gas and blinding strobe lights. And apart from the physical dangers, journalists are also facing increased legal risks including questions over how the face mask ban applies to them.
There will be a Q&A after the briefing by the two experts.
This is the latest of the FCC’s series of practical workshops for journalists covering the protests, and it is open to members, guests and working journalists who can register directly with the club (see below).
