Topic: Bringing Botticelli to Hong Kong – 500 years of Italians in Hong Kong and Macau
Consul General Alessandra Schiavo will tell us the story of the Italian community in Hong Kong and Macau — a community which has founded schools, churches and hospitals but whose legacy is not sufficiently known. She will also tell us how the dream of bringing over a unique Italian masterpiece — Sandro Botticelli’s Venus ca.1482 — has come true.
Dr. Schiavo is determined to raise the profile of Italy in this multicultural and vibrant city. The opening of the Italian Cultural Institute, the Botticelli Exhibition, jointly held by the Italian Consul General and The University of Hong Kong, and a new book on the 500 years of Italians in Hong Kong and Macau are all contributing to a deeper awareness and better understanding between these two cities and Italy.
Dr. Schiavo is a career diplomat and Consul General of Italy to Hong Kong and Macau. Previously she served in the Middle East (Tel Aviv) and in Brussels, where she participated to the drafting of the first European Constitution. She is the author of numerous academic articles on European affairs and on the Middle East peace process. She also writes literary fiction.
Complimentary copies of “500 Years of Italians in Hong Kong & Macau” by Gianni
