With Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s recent speech at the Nixon Library, the U.S. has unequivocally declared a new Cold War in its dealings with China and further drawn lines in the emerging geopolitical contest. But is this conflict avoidable? Join us for a conversation with Kishore Mahbubani, whose new book Has China Won?, analyses how the two powers arrived at this point. He will share the biggest strategic mistakes Beijing and Washington have each made in their recent dealings and discuss what has been won and lost — and what’s at stake.
Kishore Mahbubani is a distinguished fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore. He is also a former president of the UN Security Council and the founding dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. He writes and speaks on the rise of Asia, geopolitics and global governance. His eight books as well as articles in the New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times and Foreign Affairs have earned him global recognition as “the muse of the Asian century.” He was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in October 2019.
