FCC club lunch with Dr. Gino STRADA
Speaker: Dr. Gino STRADA
Founder, EMERGENCY
Topic: War, Health and Human Rights
An outspoken anti-war activist, Dr. STRADA will explore the basic concepts of war, health and human rights, as the thread that links all of EMERGENCY’s activities: the challenges of implementing human rights in contemporary conflicts. He will underline the dramatic consequences of government choices to spend more on armament rather than healthcare. Since 1994, Dr. STRADA and his group has treated over 5 million people free of charge, and without the bureaucracy of larger institutions.
Dr. Gino STRADA is the passionate and sometimes controversial founder of the Italian NGO, EMERGENCY, a highly specialized humanitarian organization dedicated to the treatment of victims of war, landmines and poverty. Previously, he has spent several years in Italy and the U.S. as a surgeon before joining the International Committee of the Red Cross as a trauma surgeon, working in conflict zones in Pakistan, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Peru, Afghanistan and Bosnia.
