FCC club lunch with Haruhiko KURODA
Speaker: Haruhiko KURODA
President, Asian Development Bank
Topic: Future Growth in Asia: Balanced, Inclusive, and Green
For decades, Asia has been a powerful engine of global economic growth and a major contributor to global poverty reduction. Today, with ongoing difficulties in the world’s developed economies and growth slowing in PRC and India, Asia must address a range of tough challenges. In the medium term, the region must continue rebalancing sources of growth toward domestic and regional sources while enhancing productivity and efficiency. To ensure sustainable growth well into the future, Asia must also focus directly on inclusive and green growth to address income disparities, environmental damage and the threat of climate change. Success in these areas will help ensure Asia’s lasting contribution to global growth, a cleaner future and, ultimately, the elimination of poverty.
Mr. Haruhiko KURODA is the President of the Asian Development Bank and the Chairperson of its Board of Directors. Mr. KURODA has nearly four decades of professional experience in various capacities, as Special Advisor to the Cabinet of Japanese Prime Minister, professor at the Graduate School of Economics at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, and Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs, Ministry of Finance (MOF), Japan.
