The Health Club, although compact, is equipped with a good selection of state-of-the-art exercise machines, as well as a sauna, steam room, showers and changing rooms.

The Workroom is a study and work area for members. It has a series of desk work-spaces, complete with Apple Macintosh or PC terminals and fast broadband access and is home to a small library of magazines, newspapers and periodicals. The workroom is well used by freelance journalists or by members who need a private, quiet workspace in Central Hong Kong for a few hours.

Situated on the first floor of the Club next to Dining Room, the Hughes and Burton Rooms can serve as private dining annexes. These open out to from a singular space that is ordinarily used by the Club’s fine-dining Chinese Restaurant. This elegant restaurant serves a selection of classic Chinese regional fare and in keeping with the Club’s mixed eastern and southern Chinese heritage, focuses on Cantonese and Shanghainese cuisines. The two interconnected Hughes and Burton Rooms, when closed up, make excellent press conference or meeting room environments.

– A reservation will be held for only 10 minutes past the booking time, after which the table will be released to any member on a first-come, first-served basis.

– Only one table can be booked at a time on a single membership account. A principal cardholder, and his or her sub-cardholder, is considered to be a single account.

Van Es Photo Wall

The Wall, as it is commonly known in the Club, is named after Dutch photojournalist Hubert “Hugh” van Es (1941-2009). Hugh was president of the FCC (1982-1983) and started the FCC Wall Committee which now organizes monthly changing exhibitions on the back wall of the Main Bar. Over the years the Wall has featured many great works by photographers and artists. Exhibition proposals (by members or non-members) can be submitted to the Wall Committee for consideration.

Bert’s is the Club’s bistro basement. Named after the late Bert Okuley, a distinguished jazz piano-playing foreign correspondent and former FCC President, Bert’s features live jazz several nights each week, often with Allen Youngblood and the FCC house band. Jazz names from across the globe regularly grace the Bert’s stage and it remains Hong Kong’s only true jazz-bar venue. There is also a pool table popular with members. BERT’S — BOOKING POLICY

– Bookings for tables at Bert’s can only be accepted until 1300. No evening bookings will be be accepted.

– For special performances or events, bookings for dinner can only be accepted before 1900.

– Members sitting at tables during the morning hours may be asked to vacate their tables by 1130 to allow staff to prepare for booked events.

– A reservation will be held for only 10 minutes past the booking time, after which the table will be released to any member on a first-come, first-served basis.

– Only one table can be booked at a time on a single membership account. A principal cardholder, and his or her sub-cardholder, is considered to be a single account.

– Bookings can be accommodated for a maximum table size of eight people. No exceptions will be made.

Verandah

The Verandah sits next to Dining Room. It’s a fine dining venue that is perhaps more intimate than its larger and grander neighbour. Its glass ceiling offers unusual views across the Central skyline, especially in the evening, and its compact size means it serves as a useful meeting or private event space. For large events its doors open out to allow it to serve as an annexe to the adjoining Dining Room.

Housed on the first floor of the Club, the expansive Dining Room is the FCC’s spectacular fine dining restaurant. Architecturally the room is outstanding, with glorious circular windows and a rare open truss timber ceiling that supports the tiled roof above, and the space provides an apt fine-dining setting. The restaurant serves a sophisticated blend of western and Asian cuisine and hosts regular seasonal, regional or wine specific special-menu evenings. The space is unrivalled in Hong Kong and makes a superb wedding, event or conference venue. The Club uses the Main Dining for its many lunch, dinner or award speaker events.

The Main Bar and the surrounding Lounge area on the ground floor are the physical, social and spiritual heart of the FCC. Described repeatedly in assorted travel literature as “one of the world’s great watering holes” and used as a backdrop in numerous novels, movies and documentaries, the Main Bar is something of a Hong Kong institution.

It features an extensive menu of value food and beverage offerings, including familiar Club favourites such as bangers and mash, fish and chips and chicken tikka masala, as well as Asian tastes. There is a rotating menu of weekly specials. And the best prices on drinks in town!

MAIN BAR AND LOUNGE — BOOKING POLICY

– Tables in the Main Bar are offered on a first-come first-serve basis. The surrounding Lounge area, including the Bunker, is only open for booking until 1300. No evening bookings will be be accepted.

FCC Wall Committee

The FCC Wall Committee is made up of two Convenors, who are members of the FCC board, members and the FCC staff. The Committee meets once a month and is tasked with reviewing and approving proposals for exhibitions on the Van Es Wall and other areas of the club.
