1:15PM – ADDRESS
Speaker: Dr. David Gething
Veterinary Surgeon & Winner, World Marathon Challenge
Dr. Gething shared how he transformed from an out-of shape soon-to-be father to a competitive runner, his inspiration for getting into shape and the way he did it. He showed photos and discussed in more detail the World Marathon Challenge, where he ran 7 marathons in 7 continents in 7 days. He talked about the amazing experiences, the high moments and the very low moments, the competition and the camaraderie of the race, and close with the story of the last race, where it was a fight to the finish to win.
The speaker won the World Marathon Challenge in January 2015, running 7 marathons in 7 continents in 7 days, and setting two new world records in the process. David was an enthusiastic world traveller, adventurer and racer. Specialising in long-distance events, he had competed in numerous marathons including the famed Boston Marathon, Ironman triathlons (up to world championship level) and multi-day European bicycle stage-races. When he was not racing or training, David – a veterinary surgeon — also ran a thriving veterinary practice in Hong Kong, and spent time also with his wife and their two young daughters.
