In recent years, public confidence in Hong Kong has taken a beating from gridlock in the legislature and violence on the streets. Regina Ip argued that the only way forward lies in restoring confidence in “One Country, Two Systems” and finding a new position for Hong Kong in a Chinese nation of nearly 1.4 billion people.
The speaker is a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, as well as the co-founder and current chairperson of the New People’s Party and Savantas Policy Institute. She is also a current member of the Executive Council. She was Secretary for Security (1998–2003), and Director of Immigration (1996–1998).
