It’s fast, it’s dangerous and it’s time for one of the classic races on the calendar–the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix. Come and join a conversation with Michael Rutter and Peter Hickman, two of motorcycle road racing’s most successful riders, as they prepare for the upcoming Macau Grand Prix. Along with the Isle of Man TT races and Ulster’s North West 200, the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix is one of the sport’s blue riband events, held on the famed Guia circuit which winds its way through the streets of Macau. Rutter has won the race a record eight times, with Hickman being victorious in three of the past four events. Once again, they are lining up as amongst the favourites for this year’s event.
At this club lunch in Bert’s, the two will share stories of racing at speeds in excess of 200mph on some of the most fearsome race tracks in the world and life on the road racing circuit with the unique camaraderie that exists amongst the bike racing community–a far cry from the sanitized world of most professional sport.
In a 30-year career, Michael Rutter, nicknamed The Blade, has successfully raced every conceivable type of motorcycle, his unprecedented Macau achievements sitting alongside his unbeaten record in the Isle of Man TT Zero race for electric motorbikes. His autobiography “The Life Of A Racer” was published in October 2019. Peter Hickman is a leading contender in the British Superbike Championship and has established a reputation as one of the very best road racers–in 2018, he was the first person ever to lap the 38-mile Isle Of Man circuit at an average speed of over 135mph.
The conversation will be moderated by Tim Huxley, presenter of RTHK Radio 3’s Macau Grand Prix coverage.
