Art Basel in Hong Kong is squarely in the centre of Asia’s international art scene. The show provides an in-depth overview of the region’s diversity through both historical material and cutting-edge works by established and emerging artists. Join us for a discussion with leading experts on Hong Kong’s role in the global art scene, particularly in respect of African contemporary art.

Natasha Becker is a seasoned independent curator. Her multifaceted practice includes scholarship on postcolonial exhibition frameworks in Africa; curating exhibitions at Goodman Gallery, Cape Town, South Africa; organizing public programs in global art history at Clark Art Institute in Massachusetts and launching an international video art festival. She is one of the co-founders of Assembly Room in New York City, a new platform and physical space that supports the professional advancement of independent women curators through community.
Pieter Hugo is a photographic artist living in Cape Town. Major museum solo exhibitions have taken place at The Hague Museum of Photography, Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, Ludwig Museum in Budapest, Fotografiska in Stockholm, MAXXI in Rome and the Institute of Modern Art Brisbane, among others. Mr. Hugo received the Discovery Award at the Rencontres d’Arles Festival and the KLM Paul Huf Award in 2008, the Seydou Keita Award at the Rencontres de Bamako African Photography Biennial in 2011, and was shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2012.
Georges Desvaux is a senior partner at McKinsey, previously he was managing partner for McKinsey in Africa and Japan, having also worked in Beijing and Paris. Mr. Desvaux advises clients on globalization growth strategies and on culture and talent transformations, with particular emphasis on opportunities in Africa and Asia. Georges writes frequently on economic perspectives and consumer trends. He was co-author of the book Africa’s Business Revolution.
