A Duty of Care: CNN’s Arwa Damon on Covering Wars and
Helping Their Child Victims
CNN senior international correspondent Arwa Damon will talk about her career covering Middle East conflicts and how it led her to co-found the charity INARA that is dedicated to helping their child victims. After covering the conflict in Iraq, the Arab Spring, the Syrian civil war and the rise of Isis, she co-founded INARA in Beirut in 2015. The charity has helped more than 360 children rebuild their lives by providing critical medical treatment after they suffered debilitating injuries. The discussion will include video of her war coverage and of children the charity has helped. Moderated by FCC vice-president, Eric Wishart.
Arwa Damon is a senior correspondent for CNN who has covered some of the most pivotal political and humanitarian crises in the Middle East and beyond. Her reporting from the frontlines has focused on the human impact. Most recently, Damon covered the explosion in Beirut and its devastating aftermath. She has won numerous awards for her work including the Investigative Reporters and Editors IRE Awards; an Emmy Award for the documentary, Return to Mosul; and the Courage in Journalism Award from the International Women’s Media Foundation.
