China may not be the first country that comes to mind when it comes to wine production, but its importance cannot be denied. With around 450 wineries spanning the country in 12 different regions, China is the world’s sixth-largest producer of wine by volume, and it’s second only to Spain in terms of vineyard area. In this FCC Zoom event, Master of Wine Fongyee Walker, China’s foremost wine educator, will provide an overview of the current state of wine production in China and discuss what Chinese wine consumers want. She will also lead a guided tasting of four Chinese wines which are now available for sale at the club so that you can sip and swirl from the comfort of your own home while she shares her tasting notes and expert insights. Moderated by FCC President Keith Richburg.
Fongyee Walker MW (Master of Wine) is the co-founder, with Edward Ragg, of Dragon Phoenix Wine Consulting, Beijing’s first and fully independent wine consulting and education service (est. 2007) which is the only provider teaching the full WSET Level 4 Diploma. She is mainland China’s most qualified wine educator having passed her Master of Wine examinations on top of years of experience as a teacher in a variety of areas. As a wine judge, Fongyee has judged at numerous wine competitions and she has also written articles for Decanter Magazine, Wine Review, RVF China and Wine in China, among other Chinese wine magazines. She is also currently a columnist for Decanter China, writing about educational issues. Fongyee is also the star of Wok ’n Wine 品尝中国, a popular internet-broadcast show about food and wine matching with Chinese cuisines with more than 4 million viewers.
