The FCC is offering two training courses open to journalists at any level of their career. The first course, Media Law Refresher, will review areas of the law that are pertinent to journalists’ work, such as copyright issues, defamation, sedition and the National Security Law in Hong Kong. The second course, Financial Planning for Journalists, will cover the basic rules of financial planning, including saving, investment, wills, insurance, pensions and more. All journalists are welcome to sign up for one or both courses. Tea and coffee will be provided (lunch is not included).

Frank Szeto is Head of Compliance & Ethics at Robertsons law firm, leading a team that deals extensively with anti-money laundering regulations, professional ethics and risk management protocols. Mr. Szeto is regularly called upon to advise on regulatory compliance issues and has assisted local and international news and media companies on various aspects of Hong Kong media law. Mr. Szeto has 25 years’ experience as a commercial litigator, handling a wide spectrum of disputes, including areas of law that are relevant to journalists. Mr. Szeto is fluent in English and Cantonese.

Jo Loney is a partner at the wealth management firm St. James’s Place Hong Kong. She has over 15 years’ experience helping her clients to plan and manage their finances to enable them to reach their financial goals. This can range from basic budgeting, through investments and into more complex tax and trust solutions but, whatever the solution, the aim is to help people make their money work for them and to give them peace of mind. Ms. Loney is a lifelong D&I champion, LGBT+ ally and women’s rights advocate. She is dedicated to providing a safe space for everyone to plan for and achieve their financial goals and to create an equal financial future for all.
